2D Motion Studies assignment.
Character Design 1:
Test of key frames for the mouth only. I will be adding a pant, eye move and slight move forward, but for now, the key frames are there for the speech. "S L O W D O W N"
Test Movement for Snail (Harder than anticipated):
Character Design 2:
Here I've done a few, extremely messy, key frames for the reaction head turn and stare:
Using Toon Boom to Animate the Snail moving forward. This was my Second time using Toon Boom which is why it's so short and not great. I spent hours on it, trying to figure the software out. Hopefully in time it'll get easier!

Background Photoshop Illustration Assignment
For this project, we had to research a selection of Landscape paintings. Come up with our own composition, create a rough line drawing, and then start to colour and shade everything. I focused on Landscapes in Holland, because it's one of my favourite countries:
Painting by Willem Koekkoek
Alan Reed
Janny Slothouber
Ronald Lee
Claude Monet
This is a edit of three paintings by Ronald Lee (Middle Ground), Alan Reed (Foreground) and Willem Koekkoek (Background)
A slow start, but starting to get the hang of it:
Adding in more detail and texture to the background:

Digitally Drawing Portraits
This is a recent digital illustration I did of myself. I want to add to it, as theres still a little more contour and highlight to be added, to all areas. However for now, I'm pretty happy with it, considering its the first time I've ever drawn a realistic(ish) face, digitally.
I then went on to draw a friend. I really want to take this idea further and possibly animate the process of how its done. It could work really well for my Experimental project.
Design Progress Presentation
So as the Art Director, my role is to design and create the overall look of the Animation. From the Character designs, the backgrounds, colour schemes etc. First of all I took all of our mood boards and used them as a base to work from...
I used the only illustration of Thomas Pellow I could find, as a reference for my character design. I also really liked the way Amid had drawn Pellow, within the story board, so I tried not to stray too far from his design...
Below is my colour version of Thomas Pellow in traditional Moroccan wear:
As Amid had been my starting point for my Character design of Pellow, I asked him to do a quite sketch of random bystanders. Just incase we needed any other characters, and also just for background characters. I then did turn around sheets of them, and later added colour...
Adding the colours (and random seagull):
Our main influence for the style of the Moroccan scenes, was based on the Animation, 'The Adventures of Prince Achmed'. I created some swatches and gradient backgrounds, whilst Naomi has been working on the silhouette cut outs:
These four backgrounds were illustrated by Jack. Although in the actual animation they won't be in black and white. It's beginning to give an idea of how things will look/be illustrated throughout. I have also added a small variety of swatches, which shows we will be using very cool tones. Mainly blues, greys, dark greys and whites...
Finally, this is my most recent much up of part of a background within Penryn. Using primarily the cool tone colours, with an exception of the fruit (Which works in the fact that Pellow has a flashback at this point. And sound combines with colour, are two important factors to help the storyline, other than the narration itself). This took me way longer than we have time for, if we wanted the whole animation done in this style. However, it was more to get an idea of how the colours work. Now I will work on simplifying.

Life Drawings
My last set of life drawings: There were a lot more from the session, however I decided to leave them in a lecture room somewhere never to be seen again. Luckily I had taken a few pictures of some of them. But my ultimate favourite is still out there somewhere.
A few really abstract, quick sketches. Trying to use a few basic lines to outline the shape and movement within the body:
15 Minute drawing: I really like how this one turned out, however, I probably over drew a little, which had lead to the lines looking rather harsh.
I feel like a lot of the proportions here are correct. However, again with the over drawing and what was I thinking with the orange??? It was a failed experiment. But nevertheless, it look like a human!
This was the last drawing; it took me 25 minutes to complete (which doesnt show) but I really focused on keeping the lines soft in areas that didnt need to be enhanced, and darker in areas of shadow. I think this is one of my most successful. She could have done with a face, but lets not ruin things!
