Character Designs for the 11 Second Production
To begin the design process, I started to sketch in Photoshop to get the ideas down. I wanted the first character to have a young/innocent face and dark hair. Her full fringe and straight hair reflects how tidy and structured she's led her life as well as her own appearance. Only small symbols but I believe it works. I also wanted her in a full spy body suit, which just emphasises who she is in the conversation.
Adding Detail and colour:
Second Character: I wanted this character to be slightly more adult and professional. I've given her blonde hair to set an obvious difference and she's in a shirt and trousers to add to the office look.
Her blue eyes and bright hair reflects the positivity she emits. She brings positivity to the conversation so I wanted her to look that way before she's even spoken.

Design and Pre Production - Art Deco
First assignment of the year for pre production is to Research and replicate an Artist from a movement given to us. I was given 'Art Deco'. At first I wasn't particularly pleased with it, however as I begun to delve into the movement and the background behind it.
Cassandre was the first Artist I looked at. He's a huge part of the movement and his works were often used for Marketing. His work is very geometric, streamline, clean and somewhat symmetrical. I took one of his Posters and painted it in acrylic paint onto some black card.

My replication
Cassandre is more towards the cubist influences of Art Deco, however Tamara De Lempicka's work is more towards an earlier era of Art Nouveau. Her work similarly is all very geometric and simple however theres a greater depth within the colours and tones.

Pencil and Ink
In general browsing I also came across an Art Deco inspired Car painting. I believe it to be a digital painting however I'm not 100% sure. I took to photoshop and tried to replicate it myself.
So far, mine is way less textured and i've not added in any background detail. For now its just a start, and was a lot harder than first anticipated.
Overall this assignment has been so helpful in pushing boundaries and helping me to step out of my comfort zone. Art Deco is something I would have never covered/been interested in voluntarily, therefore this exercise was a great one to start the year. I will most definitely be using the technique of research and replication to further my understanding of the art world and my skills within Design.
